Thiswasjustthestartofgovernmentattemptstocontrol,oratleast,toprofitfromthepopularityofteainBritain.Bythemid18thcenturythedutyonteahadreachedanabsurd119%.Thisheavytaxationhadtheeffectofcreatingawholenewindustry-teasmuggling.
