In1988HawkingwroteABriefHistoryofTime:FromtheBigBangtoBlackHoles,explainingtheevolutionofhisthinkingaboutthecosmosforageneralaudience.Itbecameabest-selleroflongstandingandestablishedhisreputationasanaccessiblegenius.Hewroteotherpopulararticlesandappearedinmoviesandtelevision.Heremainsextremelybusy,hisworkhardlyslowedbyLouGehrig'sdisease(amyotrophiclateralsclerosis,adiseasethataffectsmusclecontrol)forwhichheusesawheelchairandspeaksthroughacomputerandvoicesynthesizer.
