Themaincharacter,DavidCopperfieldisadiligentpersonwhoisgoodatobserving.Hisfatherpassedawayinhisearlytime,andhismotherdepartedlater,whichmadehimmakealivingindependently.Atfirst,hewassenttodothechildlaborer.Latter,becausecannotbearthemaltreatment,heranawaytohisaunt’shome.Hisauntsenthimtoschool,aftergraduate,hebecomealawyerandmarryhisteacher’sdaughterDora.Butsoon,DoradiedofdiseaseandDavidleaveforAustraliawithdeepsorrow.Afterreturningtohomeland,hehadbecomeawriterandmarriedAgnes,andfromthistimehestartsthehappycontentlife.
Thenovelplotisjustlikethis,thoughtherearenotmanysoul-stirringscenesandimposingheroicachievement,letsmefeelthatIwasappreciatingafreshpicture.
David’scomplexcharacterallowsforcontradictionanddevelopmentoverthecourseofthenovel.Davidexperiencedmanythingswhichweredifficultanddangerous,whenhewasintrouble,hisfriendscametohelphim.Amongthosepeople,thereweremenandwomen,eldersandchildren.Thoughtheyweredifferent,allcanrenderoneselfinone'spowerassistanceatdifficulttime.Duetohavethesetrulyfriends,Davidcanturndangerintosafetyandbepulledinthedeathedgebythecompanionagainandagain.Whatcanlethepassthedangeristhegreathumannature.
Ithinkthehumannaturepassesthroughthisbook.Inthenovel,therearemanyartcharacters,inmyopinion,thesearetheactuallylivingcharacterinthereallife.Thesecharactersarenotonlylivedin19thcentury,butalsoliveinthepresentage.Thehumannatureisidedintotwoparts,elegantandugly.Theeleganthumannatureshouldalwaysberememberedbyusandnotbedilutedbythetime’schange.Weshoulddevelopandletitleadtheentirehumannatureforithasagreatsignificanceforoursociety.Theuglyhumannatureshouldbeforbiddenandnotappearinthesociety,itisnotonlydoesnosignificancetooursociety,evenalsocantowthehindlegwhichweprogress.
