Purpose:Exerciseisphysicalactivitythatisplanned,structured,andrepetitiveforthepurposeofconditioningthebody.Exerciseisessentialforimprovingoverallhealth,maintainingfitness,andhelpingtopreventthedevelopmentofobesity,hypertension,andcardiovasculardisease.

Asedentarylifestyleandexcesscaloricconsumptionaretheprimarycausesofthisincreaseinoverweightandobesity;regularexerciseisconsideredanimportantfactorincontrollingweight.Overweightandobesechildrenandadolescentsareathigherriskofdevelopingseveralmedicalconditions,includingthefollowing:
