　　OnAugust30th1961thefirstgroupof51PeaceCorpsvolunteersarrivedinAccraGhanatoserveasteachers.Theyhadagreedtoworkforalmostnopay.TheywouldspendtwoyearsinGhanahelpingitspeopleandlearningtherealityoflifeinadevelopingcountry.Mostofthevolunteershadjustcompletedcollege.AbouthalfofthemtaughtEnglishorhealthcare.Inthe50yearssincethenmorethan200，000AmericanshaveservedasPeaceCorpsvolunteers.Theyhaveworkedin139countries.
