　　Undersubtropicalandmonsoonconditions,Zhejianghasfourdistinctseasons,andplentifulsunshine.Zhejianghaslongbeenknownas"aregionoffishandrice,thehomeofsilk,aparadisefortouristsandalandofrichculturalheritage".Ithasanaverageannualtemperatureof15.3-17.9℃,230-270frost-freedaysandanaverageannualrainfallof1000-1900mm.Ithasnumerousriverswithanaverageannualsurfacewaterrunoffofover90billioncubicmeters.

　　Theprovincecoversatotallandareaof101,800squarekilometers.Hillsandmountainsaccountfor70.4percentofthetotalareaintheprovince.Plainsandbasinsmakeup23.2percentwhiletherest6.4percentiswaterareacomposedofriversandlakes.ThenumberofislandsinZhejiangamountsto3,061withatotalareaof1,670squarekilometers.ItisaprovincewiththemostislandsinChina,amongwhichZhoushanArchipelagoisthelargest.Zhejiangalsoboastsacoastlineextending6,486kilometersandatotaloceanareaof220,000squarekilometers.Inaddition,theprovincehasalargenumberofbayswithover60naturalportsofdifferentsizes,constitutingaport-clusteramongwhichNingboPort,WenzhouPort,ZhoushanPort,JiaxingPortandTaizhouPortarethemostimportant.Thepermanentpopulationoftheprovincereached48.98millionbytheendof2005,anincreaseof1.97%overthepreviousyear.
