Myfirstdayofretirementcameatlast!Icookedagreatbreakfastformywifeandme,leisurelyreadthepaper,cleanedabitofthehouse,andwroteafewletterstofriends.Onthesecondday,Icookedbreakfast,readthepaper…Onthethirdday,…Thisisretirement?Itriedtotellmyselfthatitwasjustthetransition(过渡),thatthosegoldenmomentswererightroundthecorner,andthatIwouldenjoythemsoonenough.Butsomethingwasmissing.

Now,itseems,thetableshaveturned.SomedaysIamtheteacher,otherdaysIamthestudent.Theseyoungpeoplehavereawakenedmycommitment(责任感)tosocialjusticeissuesbychallengingmetolearnmoreaboutthesituationintheworldtoday,wherepeoplearestillpoorandsufferbecauseofgreed,corruptionandwar.Mostimportant,theyhavegivenmetheopportunitytocontinuetoparticipateinhelpingtofindsolutions.Inreturn,Ihelpthemdotheircharitableprojectsoverseas.I’vegonefromrunningoneschooltohelpingoverseetheconstructionofschoolsintwenty-onecountries!
