　　应改为:

　　Thefirstsettlerswereunpreparedforthelongandpatienttoilforwhichthesoilaloneneededalotoftimebeforeitcouldbemadetoyieldcrops.

　　问题补充：

　　bywhichthesoilaloneneededalotoftimebeforeitcouldbemadetoyieldcrops.

　　若用Bywhich的话,便把意思改为:"到了有收成时"只是土地上已须要花了很多时间.
