  CarnegiewasborninScotlandin1835,thesonofaweaver.In1848,thefamilymovedtotheUnitedStatesandat13Carnegiebegantoworkinacottonmill,earning$1.5perweek.Aboutthreeyearslater,hefoundabetterjobasatelegraphmessengerboy.Atwork,hissuperiors(上级)wereimpressedbyhisabilitiesandwillingnesstoworkhard.In1853,hegainedanofficejobatthePennsylvaniaRailroadCompany.Thiswashisfirstbigbreak.Hecontinuedtoimpressandroserapidlythroughthecompany,gaining_more_and_more_responsibility.Atthesametime,Carnegielovedreadingverymuchandmadeuseofeveryopportunitytovisitthelibrary.Hereadwidelyonallsubjects,particularlyliterature.
