　　Asdryleavesthatbeforethewildhurricanefly,

　　Whentheymeetwithanobstacle,mounttothesky.

　　Souptothehouse-topthecourserstheyflew,

　　Withthesleighfulloftoys,andSaintNicholas,too.

　　Andthen,inatwinkling,Iheardontheroof

　　Theprancingandpawingofeachlittlehoof.

　　AsIdrewinmyhead,andwasturningaround,

　　DownthechimneySaintNicholascamewithabound.

　　Hewasdressedallinfur,fromhisheadtohisfoot,

　　Awinkofhiseyeandatwistofhishead,

　　SoongavemetoknowIhadnothingtodread.

　　Hespokenotaword,butwentstraighttohiswork,

　　Andfilledallthestockings,thenturnedwithajerk.

　　Andlayinghisfingerasideofhisnose,

　　Andgivinganod,upthechimneyherose!

　　Hesprangtohissleigh,tohisteamgaveawhistle,

　　Andawaytheyallflewlikethedownofathistle.

　　ButIheardhimexclaim,'erehedroveoutofsight,
