　　9Thetruelightthatgiveslighttoeverymanwascomingintotheworld.

　　10Hewasintheworld,andthoughtheworldwasmadethroughhim,theworlddidnotrecognizehim.

　　11Hecametothatwhichwashisown,buthisowndidnotreceivehim.

　　12Yettoallwhoreceivedhim,tothosewhobelievedinhisname,hegavetherighttobecomechildrenofGod--

　　13childrenbornnotofnaturaldescent,norofhumandecisionorahusband'swill,butbornofGod.

　　14TheWordbecamefleshandmadehisdwellingamongus.Wehaveseenhisglory,thegloryoftheOneandOnly,whocamefromtheFather,fullofgraceandtruth.

　　15Johntestifiesconcerninghim.Hecriesout,saying,"ThiswasheofwhomIsaid,'Hewhocomesaftermehassurpassedmebecausehewasbeforeme.'"

　　16Fromthefullnessofhisgracewehaveallreceivedoneblessingafteranother.

　　17ForthelawwasgiventhroughMoses;graceandtruthcamethroughJesusChrist.

　　18NoonehaseverseenGod,butGodtheOneandOnly,whoisattheFather'sside,hasmadehimknown.

　　19NowthiswasJohn'stestimonywhentheJewsofJerusalemsentpriestsandLevitestoaskhimwhohewas.

　　20Hedidnotfailtoconfess,butconfessedfreely,"IamnottheChrist."

　　21Theyaskedhim,"Thenwhoareyou?AreyouElijah?"Hesaid,"Iamnot.""AreyoutheProphet?"Heanswered,"No."

　　22Finallytheysaid,"Whoareyou?Giveusananswertotakebacktothosewhosentus.Whatdoyousayaboutyourself?"

　　23JohnrepliedinthewordsofIsaiahtheprophet,"Iamthevoiceofonecallinginthedesert,'MakestraightthewayfortheLord.'"

　　24NowsomePhariseeswhohadbeensent

　　25questionedhim,"WhythendoyoubaptizeifyouarenottheChrist,norElijah,northeProphet?"

　　26"Ibaptizewithwater,"Johnreplied,"butamongyoustandsoneyoudonotknow.

　　27Heistheonewhocomesafterme,thethongsofwhosesandalsIamnotworthytountie."

　　28ThisallhappenedatBethanyontheothersideoftheJordan,whereJohnwasbaptizing.

　　29ThenextdayJohnsawJesuscomingtowardhimandsaid,"Look,theLambofGod,whotakesawaythesinoftheworld!

　　30ThisistheoneImeantwhenIsaid,'Amanwhocomesaftermehassurpassedmebecausehewasbeforeme.'

　　31Imyselfdidnotknowhim,butthereasonIcamebaptizingwithwaterwasthathemightberevealedtoIsrael."

　　32ThenJohngavethistestimony:"IsawtheSpiritcomedownfromheavenasadoveandremainonhim.

　　33Iwouldnothaveknownhim,exceptthattheonewhosentmetobaptizewithwatertoldme,'ThemanonwhomyouseetheSpiritcomedownandremainishewhowillbaptizewiththeHolySpirit.'
