  NotunlikepreviousgoldrushesmanyofthosewhoweretravelingtotheYukonwereillequippedtowithstandAlaska'sharshclimateortrainedtofinditsgold.Asthedeathtollofprospectorsrose,crimeandlawlessnessofthesedesperatedreamerswasrampant.Promptingthegovernmenttorequire"standardequipment"bepurchasedbeforeembarkingtotheYukonTerritory.FollowedbythemobilizationoftheNorthwestMountieswhowerecalledintohelpbringorder.

  Standardequipmentwasenoughsuppliestolastoneyearinthewilderness.Givingthosenewtothetundraafightingchanceatsuccess.Itemsincludedinthislistwerefoodconsistingof100lbsacksofflour,beans,rice,bacon,sugar,coffee,evaporatedpotatoes,onions,anddriedbeef.Clothingconsistingofwoolsocks,shirts,underwear,rubberboots,andheavyovercoats.Alongwithsuchequipmentasgoldpans,knives,rifles,axes,ropeandshovels.
