earthquakeofMay20,1986.Twomoremajorearthquakesofdifferentcharacteristicsshookthistestsitelaterthatsameyear,aM6.2
earthquakethatoccurredonJuly30andaM7.0earthquakethatoccurredonNovember15.Thepresentarticleanalyzesthefree-field
responsesrecordedbyadownholearrayfromtheselattertwoeventsusingthecodeSPECTRAandawidelyusedequivalentlinear
analysiscodeSHAKE.Thestudiesfocusontherelativeaccuracyandsensitivityofthetwocodeswithrespecttothevariationsoftheinput
materialparameters,usingtimehistories,accelerationresponsespectra,Fourieraccelerationamplitudespectra,andAriasintensitiesas
criteriaforthecomparison.Thetwocodescapturedthegeneralwaveformoftheaccelerationhistorieswell,buttherewasageneral
tendencyforbothcodesparticularlySHAKE!tounderpredicttheAriasintensitiesoftheearthquakes.
