Cultureisbasedonmanythingsthatarepassedfromonegenerationtothenext....Whenitcomestheculturaldifferenceofpeopletherearenorightorwrong.Peopleshouldbeawareofothercultureandrespectthedifferencesthatarebetweenthem.TheUnitedStatesandChinaaretwoverylargecountriesthathaveculturethatarewellknownthroughouttheworld.TherearemanydifferencebetweentheUnitedStatesandChina,buttherearemanycontributingfactorsthatshapetheculturesofthesetwocountries.Forexample,inChina,wecelebrateourholidayswithallfamilymembersandallrelatives,butAmericanpeoplecelebratetheirholidayswiththeirownfamily.Theydon’tcaresomuchaboutotherrelatives.ThereisonethingthatisaverygoodpointtoshowtheculturedifferencebetweenAmericaanTaiwan.TheChineseNewYearandtheNewYearfromthewestarequitedifferent.TheNewYearfromthewesternsideisalwaysonemonthbeforeChineseNewYear.ThedaybeforeNewYearmanypeoplewillgettogetherinthesamebigplacetocountfromtheendtocelebratethenewyearcoming.ChineseNewYearwillgivetheredenvelopestotheirchildrenandpeoplewillgettogetherforanicedinner.

Since2000,Dr.AndreaLouie,aculturalanthropologistfromMichiganStateUniversity,hasbeeninterviewingSt.LouisareafamilieswhohaveadoptedfromChina.Herresearchfocusesonwhether,how,andwhyadoptivefamiliesteachtheirchildrenaboutChinaandChineseculture.Sheconductsherresearchbyparticipatinginadoption-relatedevents,suchasthoseorganizedbylocaladoptionagenciesandbytheSt.LouischapterofFamilieswithChildrenfromChina.ShealsointerviewsadoptivefamiliesabouttheiradoptionstoriesandattitudestowardChinaandChineseculture.
