　　AccordingtotheGreekhistory,thefirstOlympicGamesintheGreekAntiquitycanbetracedbacktothe776BC.Thegameswerededicatedtothe12OlympianGodsandwerehostedontheancientgreenplainsofOlympia,theplacewasfamousforitsmagnificentgreattemplesofthetwogodsZeusandhiswifeHera.Thegamesinitiallyhadaveryreligiouscharactercombinedbyanumberofancientsportevents,whichmanyofthosewerebasedontheancientGreekmythology.

　　TheOlympicsisasportingeventformanydifferentsportsthatiseveryfouryears.TheoriginalOlympicGameswereheldintheancientGreekcityofOlympiathatsincethe10thcenturyBC.wasareligiousandpoliticalmeetingplace.

　　ThefirstrecordedcelebrationoftheGamesatOlympiawasin776BC.ItisalmostcertainthatthiswasnotthefirsttimethattheGameswereheld.ThentheGameswereonlylocalandhadonlyonerace,theraceofthestadium.

　　TheGamesgraduallylosttheirimportancewhentheRomansconqueredGreeceandwhenChristianitybecametheofficialreligionoftheRomanEmpire.TheGameswereregardedmoreasapagancelebration,andin393AD,theEmperorTheodosiusbannedthemcompletely.SoendedaperiodofonethousandyearsduringwhichtheOlympicsweretobeconductedeveryfouryearsthereafter.

　　TheOlympicgamesrevivedbytheFrenchBaronPierredeCoubertininthelate19thcentury.TheGamesoftheOlympiad,alsoknownasSummerOlympics,takingplaceeveryfouryearssince1896onwards,withtheexceptionoftheyearsduringtheWorldWars.In1924begantheWinterOlympics,forwintersports.Since1994,theWinterGamesarenotheldthesameyearwiththeSummerOlympics.InJuly2012theOlympicshasbeenheldinLondonUK.
