地球是人类的共同家园,但人类的活动却对地球造成了严重的破坏.生物赖以生存的森林、湖泊、湿地等正以惊人的速度消失；煤炭、石油、天然气等不可再生能源因过度开采而面临枯竭；能源燃烧排放的大量温室气体导致全球气候变暖,由此引发的极地冰盖融化、海平面上升等问题威胁到人类的生存发展.举办“世界地球日”活动的宗旨是唤起人类爱护地球、保护家园的意识,促进资源开发与环境保护的协调发展.中国从20世纪90年代起,每年4月22日都举办世界地球日活动,并根据当年的情况确定活动主题.

　　据悉,在地球日,各地国土资源科普基地将开展“三个一”活动,即一场专题展览,一场科普报告会,一个青少年互动活动.中国地质博物馆、李四光纪念馆、部级重点实验室将实施开放日,组织专家开展资源科普报告、资源科普创作以及科研成果展示活动.
