　　On10April1912,theTitanicsetoffonitsfirstvoyageacrosstheAtlantictoAmerica.AstheTitanicsailedwest,warningsoficebergsweresenttotheship,butdidn’treachthebridge.SotheTitanicwastravellingatalmosttopspeedwhenithitaniceberg.Itsanktwohoursandfortyminuteslater.Therewere2,223peopleonboardand1,517died.On6May,2006,thelastsurvivortohavememoriesoftheTitanic’ssinking,LillianGertrudAsplund,diedatherhomeinMassachusetts,UnitedStates.Asplund,whowasjustfiveyearsoldatthetime,lostherfatherandthreebrothersinthetragedy.

　　Oneofthemostfamousstoriesisoftheband.On15April,theTitanic’seight-memberband,ledbyWallaceHartley,hadtriedtokeeppassengerscalmandupbeat.Thebandcontinuedplayingmusicevenwhenitbecameclearthattheshipwasgoingtosink.Noneofthebandmemberssurvivedthesinking.Hartleywasconsideredahero,andhisfuneralinEnglandwasattendedbythousands.
