ThecultureofthePeople'sRepublicofChinaisarichandvariedblendoftraditionalChineseculturewithcommunistandotherinternationalmodernandpost-moderninfluences.DuringtheCulturalRevolution,anenormousnumberofculturaltreasuresofinestimablevaluewereseriouslydamagedordestroyedandthepracticeofmanyartsandcraftswasprohibited.Sincetheearly1980s,however,officialrepudiationofthosepolicieshasbeencomplementedbyvigorouseffortstorenewChina'sremarkableculturaltraditions.China'sculturethusremainshighlycomplex,encompassingancienttraditionsandmodernexperiments,inwhatsometimesappearstobearatherdynamicbuttenuousmix.

　　ThecultureofPeople'sRepublicwasindevelopmentlongbeforeitsfoundationin1949,andismainlyacombinationoftraditionalChinesecultureandcommunism.MuchofthediversityofChina'scultureseemstocomefromthediversityoftheHanChinesewhomakeupChina,andthenationalminoritieswhobringindividualculturalelementsfromtheircultures,andcontributetoacontinuingdevelopmentofChineseculturethatfollowsculturalchangesnationwideandinternationally.ThecultureisalsoverymuchbasedonthehistoryofChinawhichdevelopedmainlyinisolationoverthehundredsofyearsinwhichithasadaptedandassimilated.TheideologyoftheCommunistandMaoistmovementbeginninginthetwentiethcenturyiscertainlycrucialtounderstandingmodernChineseculture.Today,Chinastillhasmanycloseculturallinkswithotherpartsoftheworld,especiallywithinEastAsiaandSoutheastAsia
