从一道高考题看none but与nothing but 的区别 2007的江西省高考英语考了这样一道考题：—What do you think of the performance today?—Great! ___B___ but a musical genius could perform so successfully. (江西卷)A. All B. None C. Anybody D. Everybody此题答案选B。none but是习语，其意为“只”“仅”，句意为：只有音乐天才才可演奏得那么成功。有的同学也许会问，none but与表示类似意思的nothing but 什么区别呢？none but与nothing but均表示“只”“仅”，两者的区别如下：1. 正如nothing通常只用于指事物不用于指人一样，nothing but通常也只用于事物，不用于人。如：Nothing but the best is sold in our shops. 本店所售商品均属精品。He eats nothing but hamburgers. 他除了汉堡包之外，别的什么都不吃。For miles and miles there’s nothing but desert. 绵延数英里除了沙漠别无他物。2. 正如none既可用于指事物也可用于指人一样，none but也可既指事物也指人。如：(1) none but用于指人的用例：None but the brave deserves the fair. (谚语)只有勇士才配得到美人。None but fools have ever believed it. 只有傻瓜才相信它。None but a dedicated scientist would want to read such a detailed report. 只有一位全身心投入的科学家才会想看这样一份详细的报告。(2) none but用于指事物的用例：None but the best is good enough for my child. 只有最好的才配得上我的孩子。None but the lonely heart can know my sorrow. 只有这颗孤独的心能知道我的哀愁。注：用于指事物时，none but与nothing but有时可互换。【友情链接】含有none的其他重要习语：1. have none of sth (1) 没有一点。如：He has none of his father’s talent. 他一点没有他父亲那样的才气。(2) 不参与，不接受，不同意。如：He was offered a job but he said he would have none of it. 他被人提供一份工作，但他说他不会接受。I’ll have none of your stupid ideas!我才不会同意(接受) 你那愚蠢的想法呢! 2. none other (than) 正是，就是。如：The new arrival was none other than the President. 刚到达的不是别人，正是总统。A：Can it really be Bill? 那真是比尔吗?B：None than. 不是他，还有谁? 3. none the 毫不，决不(后接比较级)。如：My car is none the worse for the accident. 我的车并不因 为出了这次事故而有所损坏。4. none too [so] 不很，毫不(后接形容词或副词)。如：He’s none so fond of her. 他并不十分喜欢她。The salary they pay me is none too high. 他们付给我的薪水一点也不高。5. none the wiser 不知情，不晓得。如：He explained it carefully, but I was still none the wiser. 对这件事他细心地加以解释，但是，我仍然还不明白。After hearing her talk on computers I’m afraid I’m none the wiser. 我听了她关于计算机的讲话之后似乎毫无收获。
